Aspire Charter Academy is a tuition-free private school dedicated to not only giving low-income K-5 children in the Orlando community a great education, but encouraging them to become the best they can be. Individualized attention is a high priority and no student ever graduates from Aspire without given the time and care they need to succeed.
My job was to create their 2016-2017 yearbook, but I wanted to do more than that. I wanted to create a memento that could be personalized by each student and kept to look fondly on for years to come.
So I set out to design a yearbook that was able to be colored and doodled in. The school motto of, "Teach, Learn, Aspire," inspired me to center the book on "reaching for the stars" through a space theme. I created dozens of custom illustrations and placed them throughout the book for the students to color in, coupling many of them with fun facts about space. I didn't even know a few of these facts so it was fun learning more things about our solar system, even though I wasn't in school anymore!
The result was a fun, interactive yearbook completely different from previous years and one that I hope the students were able to express themselves through and parents to treasure.
